Flipped Classroom Activity

The plan should include the following information:

1. The title of the course Database Management System and the Concept: Normalization in Database

2. Number of students in the class 60

3. Duration 90 Minutes

4. How will you prepare the students for the activity?

  • The resource videos were created using a Camtasia Software.
  • Students were instructed about this activity and process was explained.
  • The resources were provided to students and were asked to watch the videos and from videos understand the concept of Normalization in Database System.
  • Students were asked to practice the contents as given in videos and pdf document at home.

5. How will the reading/learning materials and resources will be provided to the students?

  • All Resources/Contents are available on Moodle Server as well as on FTP Server.
  • Also, all resource material are available on Cloud Storage for easy access in the home.

6. How the in- class time will be utilized – describe in detail the activities with a time line.

  • In the next lecture, The assessment questions were posed to assess their learning and preparations.
    • E.g. 1) What is mean by Normalization      
      • Think phase- 10 min
      • Pair phase -10 min
      • Share phase -10 min each
    • 2) Different types of Normalization (1NF, 2NF, 3NF and BCNF)
      • Think phase- 10 min
      • Pair phase -10 min
      • Share phase -10 min each
  • These questions were part of Think-Pair-Share sub-activity.
  • The level of questions was remember, apply and analyze.
  • The results of questions
    • For the first question about 70% class responded correctly. As they did it in the pairs.
    • For the second question the response and answers of the questions were not satisfactory.
  • Finally feedback from students is taken for this activity.

7. What constraints you expect and how you propose to control them?

  • In normal classroom, there are many disturbances, it may loose one’s concentration, but in this activity the resources such as videos are provided which can be watched by students at any time & as many times. It helps in understanding concepts very well.
  • It helps in completion of syllabus in time
  • I find difficult to maintain curiosity while learning on my own.
  • I think there should be videos of every lecture, so that we can learn anytime under teacher’s guidance.
  • From videos, students can learn difficult concepts on their own, No need to learn from teachers.

  •   On Moodle Server with Feedback Ratings

  • From videos, students can learn difficult concepts on their own, No need to learn from teachers.
  • Based on Questionaries’ ask on activity during online feedback.
